Bill had always wanted to travel, see the world, visit the pyramids, Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon… Then she’d met the Doctor, and the wonders of earth paled in comparison to the things he’d shown her.

 
“Trust me, the Grand Canyon is nothing compared to the Smoolium Rift,” he’d said when she’d told him of the places she wanted to see. He was right.
 

“Oh my god!”
 

Where the Grand Canyon was pinks and yellows, subtle shadings, the Smoolium Rift was ten times deeper, the rock strata every colour of the rainbow, shining with their own light. It was breath-taking.
