Spoilers: Nada.
Summary: Looking after newborn twins is exhausting.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
“New parents are supposed to rest when baby does,” Ianto said, slumping down beside his husband. “That’s what all the baby books say.”
“We’re not new parents,” Jack replied. “We’re old parents, we’ve been doing the parenting thing for nearly eight years.”
“I’m not convinced that taking care of Meriel counts. I don’t remember that being so exhausting.”
“That’s because there’s only one of her, and she slept a lot in the first few months.”
“The twins sleep a lot too,” Ianto pointed out. “Just not both at the same time.”
At three weeks old, the two newest members of the Harkness-Jones family seemed to have settled into a routine where one would sleep while the other was awake and demanding to be fed, changed, rocked, bounced, soothed, whatever it took to quiet the crying. Then, as soon as that one was settled and sleeping, the other would wake up, starting the whole process again.
If they could have split the parenting, one to each baby, maybe it would have worked and they might both have been able to get some sleep, but they also had their oldest daughter to care for, and housework too.
No rest for tired daddies.
The End
