Summary: Joyce is trying hard to understand.

A/N: Double drabble.
“So,” Joyce said, trying to get her head around everything Buffy had told her that night before she’d run away, and everything she’d learned from Mr Giles since then. “You’re the Slayer, just you?”
“The one and only,” Buffy agreed.
“And it’s up to you to kill vampires?”
“And demons, and other nasties, to stop the spread of their evil, yadda yadda…”
“But… all by yourself?”
“Well, I have Giles, my Watcher, but essentially…” Buffy shrugged. “Yep, just me, all on my lonesome. With some help from my buds.”
“But… that’s ridiculous! You’re seventeen, and you’re expected to defeat the forces of evil when you don’t even have a passport? And I cannot believe I just said that.”
“Mostly I’m just stopping the spread of their evil around Sunnydale. I don’t know, maybe there are potentials around the world, getting in some practical experience ahead of one of them possibly taking over as Slayer.”
“But that will only happen when you… when you die, according to Mr Giles. Oh, I hate that part!”
“I’m not too fond of it either, so I’m doing my best to make sure it doesn’t happen. I’m super-careful Slayer Buffy these days, mom. I promise.”
