Summary: Torchwood agents are seldom paragons of sanity. Not after the first few weeks anyway.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
Technically, you didn’t HAVE to be mad to work for Torchwood, but a touch of insanity did provide a valuable buffer against the craziness of the job. It wasn’t just the aliens and the alien tech the team had to deal with; it was their colleagues and their leader as well. Even if someone didn’t have a few screws loose when they joined the secret alien-hunting organisation, after a few days or weeks, their grip on rationality started to slip. It was inevitable.
Jack smiled reassuringly at the team’s newest recruit. “Don’t worry about it. You’re not the first person to do that, and you won’t be the last.”
“But I shot you! Not that I meant to, I was just startled, but still…”
“It happens. You don’t have any prior experience with guns, and you just forgot to put the safety on. I’m pretty sure you won’t make that mistake again. Right?”
“Yes, right,” William agreed. “I’m sorry.”
“Like I said, it’s fine. It was just a graze anyway.”
“A graze? I shot your ear off!”
“I’m impressed with your marksmanship. It could have been worse. Tosh shot me in the foot the first time she handled a gun.”
The End
