Author:
Characters: PC Andy, OC.
Rating: PG
Written For: Challenge 918: Denial, at
Spoilers: Nada.
Summary: The people of Cardiff are very good at rationalising what they see.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
The great thing about Cardiff’s residents is that most of them are in denial about the realities of life in their fair city. They shrug off things that would have most people staring in disbelief and wondering if they were going crazy.
Of course, many members of the public are simply convinced that there are occasionally hallucinogens in the water supply, and that Cardiff suffers more than its fair share of gas leaks. It’s almost funny the way their steadfast denial allows them to disbelieve their own eyes even while they take precautions to avoid any figments of their imagination that crop up.
The most sensible of them avoid alleyways after dark, and keep to brightly lit streets and crowds, because of course no one can be too careful these days. There are muggers and other unsavoury characters everywhere. Better safe than sorry.
“What was it you saw?” PC Andy asks the witness.
“Some guy in a Halloween costume. In MAY! The idiot. Was pretty scary though, kinda reptilian, you know, scaly. Looked like he was eating a dead fox. It was weird. I didn’t stick around, just grabbed my dog and ran.”
Andy nods. Great. He’d better call Torchwood.
