Spoilers/Setting: Anne.
Summary: Buffy finally feels ready to go home and face her friends.
Disclaimer: I don’t own BtVS, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
Running away, losing herself in L.A. waiting tables for minimum wage, abandoning her duty as the Slayer, had seemed like a good idea at the time. Buffy had needed to escape, leave everything behind, lick her wounds in private, somewhere nobody knew who she was, or what she was. Her head was a mess, full of guilt, shame, and regret for all the things she’d done wrong, or badly, or not soon enough. All the deaths she could have prevented.
She couldn’t face her friends, knowing what they’d been through because of her, couldn’t bear the thought of seeing the disappointment and anger in her mom’s eyes, didn’t want the responsibility of being the Slayer, having to protect others from the forces of evil when her heart was shattered and her life falling apart before her eyes. It was too much. She was only seventeen!
But when Lily had recognised her, and asked her for help… Buffy could have refused, but she couldn’t deal with more guilt over something else she could have prevented. Fighting Ken and the other demons reawakened her Slayer side, reminded her who she was…
She was still hurting, but she was ready to go home.
