Mum used to do that with me, she knew all the things I liked even if she didn't share all my interests so I always got some awesome stuff.
Twelve years, that's a great age! I know cats can live a long time though, a neighbour's Siamese lived into her 20s.
Keeping my fingers crossed that GYWO will provide the impetus you need =)
