When Happy Birthdays Turn Less Happy

I've had a pretty good Birthday, despite having chores to do - lots of cards and good wishes, TWO Birthday cakes (both delicious), flowers and presents.

So I was enjoying my day until I went to clean out my guinea pigs this evening and found one of then had died. Their house is in the living room with us and they were both alive when I went to do the washing up, but when I came back, Crumpet was dead. They are both quite old and haven't been their usual selves the last few days, but it's still a shock and very sad.


On a brighter note, thanks to all my wonderful friends for their birthday greetings, to takisys and ericadawn16  for the lovely pictures, sassysailorgirl , jedi_harkness , angelsphonebox and sariagray for their birthday messages, zazajb and miss_bekahrose for the wonderful virtual gifts and toshiani007 for writing me a birthday fic. (if I've missed anybody out, I'll post another thankyou later!) 

I love you all! No matter how I'm feeling, you're always there to cheer me up and make me feel better. *Hugs*

*Hugs* At least you had a good birthday up to a point. Hope everything else goes better, and I'm sorry about the death in your family. *hugs again*

Thankyou *hugs* we are very sad and so is Gingernut, the surviving guinea pig. She looks rather lost without her sister, there's no one to snuggle up to. At least Crumpet went peacefully, and she had her first dandelion leaves of the year today, so she got a last treat. Not really how I wanted my birthday to end though.

Poor baby. It's always hard to lose the one you cuddle up to. I do hope she'll be okay.

I don't know if she will. She's old too, and they've both been a bit poorly lately. I think they caught mum's cold - guinea pigs are susceptible to people things! I'm worried she'll pine away without her sister, they've never been apart. She seems so small huddled in the corner.

Oh, no! *hugs* Poor guinea pigs. :( I do hope Gingernut will be okay, but like you said, she may pine and... I think sometimes it is harder to watch an animal pine for their constant companion than anything else. *hugs*

*Hugs* Thankyou. It is hard, she looks so small and lonely, and doesn't seem interested in anything. Everytime we have two guinea pigs together, one always dies first. The other one is left alone and sometimes it doesn't seem to bother them, but Crumpet and Gingernut were really close, spending ages grooming each other. They squabbled a lot at times, and Crumpet always tried to steal Ginger's food, but I'm sure they loved each other. I feel so useless. All I can do is try to find dandelion leaves for her (there are very few this time of year), and stroke and talk to her.
