Summary: Jack and Ianto are embarking on an urgent rescue mission.

A/N: Double drabble. Set in my ‘Ghost of a Chance’ ‘Verse.




Jack and Ianto had loaded extra fuel into the Happy Wanderer for this run. They wouldn’t be able to spare the time to stop off at any of the space stations spread out along their route; every second counted when transporting food and emergency medical supplies to a colony hit by disaster so instead of the usual relatively short hops they’d be flying non-stop at their top speed. Even so, it would still take them almost three weeks to reach their destination.


That was the trouble with planets being spread such vast distances apart throughout the galaxy. When a new colony got into trouble, perhaps because of unanticipated bad weather, earthquakes, drought, disease, or attack, help often arrived too late to do much good, especially when everyone could be wiped out in a matter of hours.


Nevertheless, every effort had to be made, and as soon as a distress call was intercepted, ships were always sent out from whatever world was closest. In this case, because the colony was out on the rim where planets were even further apart, that meant a longer than usual wait for assistance.


Jack sighed. “Times like this, I really wish we had a TARDIS.”
