I think I might have missed a week or two... Oh well, here's another fic foir yiour enjoyment!

Counting Stars by
[personal profile] soera is a 17-part fic from October 2009. There are quite a few notes at the start which should at least be glanced at before diving in.

Synopsis Of Sorts: It's epic-length, it's a fix-it, a sort of between-the-episodes look at things that might have happened off-screen. There are OCs, there are cliches, there is angst, and smut, and schmoop by the barrel-load, and it is most definitely Jack/Ianto.

Read it on LJ HERE

Or, on Dreamwidth HERE - which means following the Counting Stars tag because the links in the chapters all lead back to LJ. Start at the bottom of the page.

Anyway, Happy Reading!

Welcome to a rather overheated edition of Fic of the Week! This week's choice was originally posted in April 2010, but has since been updated. There are 33 chapters, but don't let that put you off.

The Eternal City is another fic by our favourite angst merchant
angstosaur. It's a deliciously timey-whimey fic with plenty of angst, fluff, smut, sightseeing, time travel, and centurions. It's also a fix-it.

Summary: A trip to Rome for a short break takes on a new meaning for both Jack and Ianto.

Read it on AO3
HERE

Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Happy Reading, everybody!

Welcome to another edition of Fic of the Week. Today I have for you a gem from December 2010, a short one-shot with its 11 part sequel.

Want Versus Need & Like Constantly Shifting Sand Beneath Your Feet are by the amazing
[personal profile] choccy_grl. It's very much a Jack/Ianto love story although it starts out very dark and angsty, beginning just after the Season One episode Out Of Time.

Summary: After John’s successful suicide attempt in Ianto’s car, Jack returns to the Hub.

AN: The effects of long term or repeated carbon monoxide poisoning - Can affect memory, brain function, behaviour and cognition. Especially, but not exclusively, personality and behavioural changes, loss of muscle control, impairment of co-ordination and vision.

Want Versus Need is HERE

Like Constantly Shifting Sands begins HERE

Hope you enjoy as much as I did. Happy reading, everybody!

Okay, here's one that... Well, I am probably the only person in Torchwoodland who had never read this fic, which is rather shocking considering how popular it is, and how amazingly well it's written. Surely it's among the best Torchwood fics ever, so may I present an 8-part fic from October 2008...

Get Loved, Make More, Try to Stay Alive is by
[personal profile] dira, and... is impossible to describe without massive spoilers. Yes, there is M-Preg, which I know a lot of people dislike, but done right, as it is here, with a plausible reason, it works.

Summary: "When we don't die young and violently, we die weird. Well, or all three, case in point."

If you haven't read this fic, read it now. You won't regret it.

Happy Reading, everybody!

Here we go again! Late... Oops!

This week's fic is another 11-parter from October 2010. It's also a Children of Earth fix-it.

Ynys Roana is by
[personal profile] moonfirefic, and is a kind of folklore fantasy in which Ianto is not exactly human.

Summary: When Martha brought Ianto’s body back to the newly rebuilt Torchwood Three, she never expected a selkie, a mythical creature of the sea, to revive him and take him beneath the waves. Now seven years later, she has a chance to bring Ianto back, and it’s up to the fragments of Torchwood and their allies to find Jack, and convince him to call Ianto home.

Notes: Ynys is Welsh for island, and roana a derivative of roane which is Welsh for seal. Selkies are magical half-seal half-human creatures found in the folklore of the British Isles. This story is heavily influenced by tales my Nana

used to tell by the fireside of her seaside house near Bantry, Ireland. There's a dash of the movie The Secret of Roan Inish, a smidgen of The Seal Children by Jackie Morris, and a liberal dusting of Irish family traditions (Nana still smoors the fire nightly - albeit with a more traditional prayer).

Happy reading, everybody!

I'm a bit late this time around, I nearly forgot, but better late than never!

This week we have an 11-parter from December 2011, written for
reel_torchwood. While it based on a movie, it is still very much a Torchwood fic, even if it doesn't seem that way at first.

Chocolat - it's good for your serotonin levels is by
angstosaur
, who is as angsty a writer as their name implies, but that doesn't mean the fic is devoid of fluff. There is plenty of both, in my opinion, and a sweet story into the bargain.

Summary: After losing his memory following a car accident that killed his wife, Ianto sets up a chocolate shop in a remote village with his young daughter. However, he has recurring black outs and then a handsome stranger turns up one day and nothing is ever the same again.

Read it at LJ HERE

or on AO3 HERE

And there you have it! Happy (and angsty) reading, everyone!

And now for something a bit longer...

This week's fic is from December 2008. It's 20 parts and an epilogue, but don't panic, they're shortish chapters.

I Love you, I'm Sorry, Goodbye is by
markov_debris, who is definitely still around if you'd care to show your appreciation in the form of comments. It's set post-Exit Wounds and the Doctor Who episodes The Stolen Earth and Journey's End, and is rated 15.

Summary: One day Ianto Jones leaves Jack and Torchwood...

Author's Warning: Spoilers for both series of Torchwood plus the audio drama Lost Souls and some for several episodes of Doctor Who.  There is lots of Angst plus some things you have to wait and see.

The fic can be read
HERE. Chapters are linked.

Here we are again, another Monday and another fic rec.

This one's from April 2010 and is deceptively short, only 5 chapters, but they're quite long chapters.

Condition of Release is by the amazing
[personal profile] sam_storyteller, and is a very different take on the episode Cyberwoman and its aftermath. Poor Ianto goes through a lot, but he'll be okay in the end, I promise. It's rated PG-13 until the last chapter, when it goes up to R for some smuttiness ;)

Summary: Jack has studied the Cybermen for forty years, and he's damned if he'll let one take any of his people away from him without a fight.

Author's Notes: This was inspired by Tomb Of The Cybermen and The Invasion, two Classic Who episodes which indicate that Cybermen have the power to control human minds. The mythology of the Cybermen is complicated and contradictory, but a remarkable constant remains their desire, their need, for a human collaborator to ready the way for them.

The fic can be read on dreamwidth HERE - chapters are linked.

Or on AO3 HERE.

Ready for another fic rec?

This one's relatively short, only 6 parts, and it's from March of 2008.

Past and Forever is by
veronicaluv and is, according to the author, Vaguely spoilerish for the entire series, up until the last two minutes of "Fragments".

It's rated Adult for offscreen violence (involving torture), bad language, and non-graphic sex. The first chapter especially is quite gruesome, but please stick with it because it is, despite initial appearances, a love story.

There's no actual summary provided by the author, but suffice to say, something very bad happens to Ianto while he's trying to sort out his feelings for Jack.

You can read the fic
HERE. Chapters are linked.

Here we are, it's Monday again and time for another fic rec.

This one is 14 parts and was originally posted back in January 2010.

Caput-sihil is by lone_star_woman, and is a Children of Earth fixit with a twist. The author describes it as an AU fix-it. It also contains a lot of OCs.

Summary: The day after Martha’s wedding, Ianto falls asleep in London, and wakes up on a different planet over a thousand years later. His other body is dead, and his current one is defective. Ianto has a difficult journey ahead of him, and the Caput-sihil Corporation is there to help.

The fic is available to read on LJ HERE (Chapters are linked).

Also on ff.net HERE

If you love worldbuilding, you'll enjoy this.

Here we are again for this week's fic choice.

This one's a 6-parter posted between Feb & April 2008

Had I the Heavens is by lorannah and is set immediately after the events of second season episode Adam, so expect spoilers for anything before that. It is Jack/Ianto, but it's very angsty, so beware!

Summary: Adam’s stupid, but he has a talent that Captain John can use. Finally this is a way he can get back into the hub…

This fic is available on LJ
HERE

and on AO3
HERE

If you like your fics dark, you'll love this!

Yes, by request (sort of), Fic of the Week is returning!

I've been making an effort recently to fit in some reading time, and there are so many amazing fics still out there waiting for new readers to discover them, and for existing readers to rediscover old favourites.

This one's an 11-parter from April 2011.

Breaking Through is by the wonderful
[personal profile] lilferret. It's set in an alternate timeline where CoE happened, but Tosh and Owen are still alive. It's a Jack/Ianto fic, and it's rated NC-17 for a reason, so enjoy ;)

Summary: There wasn’t a day that had gone by in the last several weeks that Jack hadn’t been yanked out of sleep by his recurring nightmare.

You can find this one in several places:

LJ HERE

Dreamwidth HERE

ff.net HERE

AO3 HERE

If you read and enjoy, please consider leaving a comment. I know the author would be thrilled!

Apologies for skipping Fic of the Week (or Fortnight) last time - it was due to me not having time to read the fic. Life keeps getting in the way of fandom.

So, quickly, I'll offer you the new selection, an 11-parter from August 2008.

Frozen is by
sunstar77 and includes spoilers up to and including the episode Combat. It's a teamfic, I thought that might be a nice change, the whole team trying to solve something. Plus, the wintry feel fits my mood.

Summary: The team must discover the cause of the snowstorm burying Cardiff before it becomes a frozen wasteland.

Here's a link to the LAST part - because it has links to all the other parts so it's easier for me than listing links for 11 parts.

That's all for now, see you in two weeks. Happy reading!

Here we are with the second of this year's fortnightly posts. I didn't quite get through the last one in time, I have one chapter left to read but my writing has been getting in the way. So many deadlines! Nevertheless, I will catch up at some point!

This time the fic is PTSD: Post Torchwood Stress Disorder by
thefannishwaldo, a 7-parter from November 2007. This is one I've wanted to read for a long while, but just never got around to.

Summary: It's been two and a half years since Canary Wharf. It's been a year since Lisa. And Jack is just now realizing what the real toll has all been on Ianto and the other survivors of Torchwood One. Now he needs to fix a big thing done badly before anyone else dies.

The fallout from the Canary Wharf battle interests me. So few survivors, but what became of them? Maybe this will provide some answers.

Part 1 is here on LJ     Part 2     Part 3     Part 4     Part 5     Part 6      Part 7

Or read it here on AO3

Well, that's your lot for this time, hope you enjoy it! Happy reading!

Happy New Year everyone! (Just in case anyone missed my New Year post!)

Here we are with the first of the fortnightly (every two weeks) Fic of the Week posts for 2015. I toyed with changing the name to Fic of the Fortnight, but it just didn't seem right, lol!

This time, I've chosen More Richer Than My Tongue by
sanginmychains, an 8-part fic from July 2008.

Summary: This fic is my exploration of the Jack/Ianto relationship post-Cyberwoman. The boys have some issues, to say the least, so I sent them away from the world, stuck them in a tent, and rained on them.

Part 1 is here.

Parts are linked.

And that's it! Anyone who wants to read this now has 14 days to do so before I post links to another fic for our reading pleasure =)

Happy reading, everybody!

badly_knitted: (I'll Take This One)

Here we are, the final Fic of the Week post for 2014! Starting next week, I will be doing Fic of the Week every two weeks so that I can rec something a bit longer and still have a chance of reading it before it's time for the next post. I've had so little time available recently that I've fallen way behind in my reading, so I'm hoping to have a few days next year set aside for reading rather than writing. We'll see how THAT idea goes, lol!

The final fic rec for 2014 is The Angel And The Abyss, a three-parter by
cthonus from way back in February 2007. Sometimes it's hard to believe Torchwood fanfic has been going for so long!

Summary: Set during the final hours of End of Days. An alternative take on the final hours of End of Days. Ianto isn't taking the situtation very well...

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Or read the whole fic here.

And that's all for 2014! Happy reading, everybody! See you next year, I hope!

badly_knitted: (I'll Take This One)

The last Fic of the Week before Christmas, but I think there will be one more before the end of the year.

Another 2-parter this week. This time we have Chances, a CoE Fix-it fic from July 2009, courtesy of
buttercupgaud.

Summary: What happens after CoE.

Well, that's short but sweet, rather like this post!

Part 1 is here.

Part 2 is here.

Happy Holidays to everyone, whatever holiday ypu do or don't celebrate! *hugs everyone* Hope you all have a great time!

Happy reading, everybody!

badly_knitted: (I'll Take This One)

Look at that, it's Fic of the Week time again already! Life is doing me in on the run up to the holiday season, so I'm going with a very short fic this week, so that I can keep up.

Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics is a two-parter by
alex51324 from back in May of 2009. It's R-rated, so apologies to those of you who might be underage ;)

Summary: Obligatory post-Cyberwoman Janto. My attempt to answer the question of "How did Ianto get from calling Jack a monster in "Cyberwoman" to suggesting sex games in "They Keep Killing Suzie"?" Because what the fandom really needs is more of those. (We do, we do! BK)

Part 1 is here.
- Part 2 is linked at the end of Part 1.

And that's all for this week because I have an endless list of things that need to be done in prepation for Christmas and not enough time or energy to do even half of them. I'll do what I absolutely have to around the house and leave the rest. It'll still be here next year.

Happy reading everybody.

badly_knitted: (I'll Take This One)

I don't think I'm ever going to catch up with my posting, never mind my reading. I still have more than 30 ficlets to post from Contest Week, now there are 7 more from Challenge Week and at least 3 from recent
[community profile] fan_flashworks  challenges, plus a few chapters of Through Time and Space and several other fics written a while ago... o_O

Ah well, have a short fic from August 2010 to read. Five Things That Ianto Jones Loves About Jack Harkness And One Thing He Loathes is a little Ianto-centric 3-parter by
hw221

Summary: just what it says on the tin. Romance, slash, h/c.

A bit of variety; that sounds good to me!

Part 1 is here.

Part 2 is here.

Part 3 is here.

And that's it for this week! Happy reading, everybody!

badly_knitted: (I'll Take This One)

Normal service will be resumed one day, I hope, but for now here's a really short fic for this week, just two parts because I'm so far behind with reading, not to mention all my backlog of emails... Life is being a b***h atm, so keeping up with everything is a juggling act, but I refuse to be beaten!

This week's fic is Astonished by
gonewithoutjam, from way back in April 2007. It's rated NC-17, so get ready to enjoy the smut =)

Summary: Jack knows Ianto is more than just a teaboy, but Ianto still has a few surprises for Jack.

Set in series one, so expect spoilers for that.

Part 1 is here.
Part 2 is linked.

And that's all for this week! Happy reading, everybody!
