A/N: Double drabble.
Dying really took it out of Jack. One death in a day was bad enough, but three constituted cruel and unusual punishment, especially since each one had been from serious injury. There hadn’t even been time to refuel between deaths, so now his body’s reserves were badly depleted.
Dragging himself upright on legs that felt so weak and shaky he wasn’t at all sure he could walk, he clung to a convenient tree for support. He needed food and drink, but in the middle of Bute Park he wasn’t likely to find either.
Then a voice sounded in his ear.
“Jack? Jack, where are you?”
Raising a trembling hand to his earpiece, he answered.
“Ianto? I’m near the botanical gardens. I think.”
“Are you okay?”
“I died. Again. Killed the last of those critters though.” Three small but savage aliens had fallen though the Rift, and Jack had set himself up as bait in order to deal with them.
“Stay there, I’m on my way.”
“Not going anywhere.” Jack slid down to sit at the base of the tree.
A few minutes later, Ianto arrived with a bottle of water and a packet of biscuits.
Jack smiled. “You’re a lifesaver!”
