Summary: Jack is being kept isolated from the rest of the people aboard the Valiant.

Somewhere on the Valiant Jack knew the Doctor was imprisoned, and somewhere on the planet far below, Martha Jones was carrying out the Time Lord’s plans. She had to still be free, otherwise the Master wouldn’t still be so angry, which was good for the world, but not so good for Jack.

 
Still, he was alone right now, chained up in splendid isolation in the heat and stink of the engine room. The only people he ever saw were the Master, the occasional guard, and Tish, when the Master let her feed him.
 

On the whole, Jack preferred being alone.
