Date: 2017-06-23 09:08 am (UTC)Sounds like the lovebird you rescued was way more grateful than the one I found, which was a male. He had accidentally got out of the owner's house and been caught by a storm that had blown him 15 miles from his home. The owner was so grateful to get him back.
I've handled a lot of birds over the years, I used to breed and show Zebra Finches and Bengalese, and we always had budgies or later cockatiels. I even hand reared a baby coal tit until a sanctuary could take him in, but the lovebird was the most vicious, followed by our cockatiels every time I had to clip their beaks or claws. They always made their displeasure known so I usually wore gloves when handling them. I just didn't have time with the lovebird - saw it, grabbed it, regretted it instantly but couldn't let go until mum found a cage for me to put it in!
Also did the same when I found a stray ferret in the garden, but that was much friendlier, although very smelly. My rabbit wasn't at all happy to have a ferret in the cage below his.
