Dee steps into their shared apartment and stops. He’s late, yes, but surely the lights should be on, and he should be able to smell dinner cooking. On his day off, his partner always has dinner ready by the time Dee gets home.


Instead the apartment is dark and silence hangs heavy in the air. What could have happened in the last few hours? Where’s Ryo?


As his eyes adjust to the lack of light he sees a shape on the sofa; Ryo, book in his lap, glasses sliding down his nose, fallen asleep while waiting for him.


Dee smiles.
