Summary: The Rift is quiet but that’s not good news.

A/N: Double drabble.




According to Tosh’s Rift predictor programme, the Rift would remain in a lull for at least the next two days, possibly three. For most of the team that was reason enough to celebrate. They could catch up on lost sleep and maybe deal with the backlog of routine work that had piled up recently.


Jack didn’t find the prospect so cheering, and it had little to do with the pile of paperwork on his desk awaiting his attention.


No, he’d seen this particular pattern in Rift activity play out before and he knew what it meant; this was the calm before the storm.


“Everybody go home; do any essential chores, laundry, shopping, that kind of thing, but rest as much as you can.”


“But what about everything that needs doing around here?” Ianto protested. “We could catch up with paperwork, and I have some routine maintenance I’ve been putting off--”


“Forget about it; that’s an order. We might get three days off and we need to make the most of them because when the Rift starts up again all Hell is gonna break loose. Rest while you can because you won’t be getting much for the next few weeks.”
