The hotel had been surprisingly luxurious. One of the benefits of going on a short break out of season was that the best rooms were available for a fraction of the usual price, so they’d booked a suite with lounge and bedroom, and a sea view from the balcony. They’d had five days in the Florida sun, a welcome respite from the dreary, damp New York weather, and it had been glorious, but now they had to go home.
 

“Wish we could’ve stayed longer,” Dee said as he closed his suitcase. “Couple of weeks maybe.”

 
“Mm,” Ryo agreed, “maybe we should do this again next year, just book for a longer stay.”
 

“If we can get the time off.”
 

That was always the problem; even when they had vacation days owing, it wasn’t always possible for them to take time off together, especially when the precinct might be shorthanded due to seasonal ailments.

 
“It’ll be good to get home though.”

 
“You WANT to go home?” Dee stared at his lover in astonishment.
 

“Not really, it’s just… There’s a lot to be said for the comforts of home.” Ryo smiled sheepishly. “As comfy as this bed’s been, I like mine better.”
