A/N: Double drabble.
 


 
For a split second when the shot rang out, impossibly loud over the sounds of traffic, and people screaming, Dee thought the shooter had missed. Then he felt the impact, a sledgehammer punch to the chest, and he was falling, going over backwards, unable to catch himself.

 
The sidewalk stopped his fall with jarring suddenness, and what breath he had left from the bullet slamming into his vest escaped in a pained wheeze. His head spun as the back of his skull hit the ground, and dark spots danced across his vision, although whether that was from the impact or the lack of oxygen he couldn’t tell.

 
Faintly, as if it was coming from a long way off, he heard another gunshot and he fought to remain conscious, fear for his partner’s safety sending a surge of adrenaline through his system. He sucked in a desperate breath, lungs straining, wanting to get up, check on Ryo… Time stretched like elastic, and he’d barely managed to lever himself halfway up on one elbow when his partner appeared, thankfully unharmed, kneeling beside him.
 

“You okay?”
 

“I’ll live,” Dee ground out. “You get him?”
 

“Yes.”
 

Dee nodded; Ryo always was the better shot.
