Sometimes it bothered Ianto that he’d become so good at lying. Growing up, his mam had always told him it was important to be honest, and his tad had punished him whenever he was caught in a lie, but the life he lived now wasn’t conducive to telling the unvarnished truth
He worked for a secret organisation that dealt with all things extra-terrestrial, whether that was beings and animals from other worlds, or alien technology and spacecraft. Most humans had no idea that earth was in regular, not always consensual, contact with other planets, and would probably react badly if they found out, so discretion was essential.
The Official Secrets Act existed for a reason, to keep sensitive information from getting into the wrong hands, but having to lie to friends and family was an uncomfortable situation to be in.
“You have to be the clumsiest person I’ve ever met,” Rhiannon said with the patented Jones eye-roll. “How you manage to get yourself injured so often I just don’t know. You work in a tourist information office!”
Ianto sighed; he could hardly tell Rhi he’d been hit in the eye by a flailing tentacle.
“Juggling is harder than it looks.”
