Ianto stood on the dock, staring out across the water towards Flat Holm Island. He’d known pointing Gwen towards the place Rift abductees were housed and cared for was the only thing he could do, but that didn’t make him feel any better about it.

 
Gwen would have never given up, and her obsession had been interfering with her assigned work. There’d been every possibility she might put her own or someone else’s life at risk because she was too distracted to pay attention. Jack had understood that too, but had been in an awkward position, having told her several times to drop it. If he’d backed down after that, he would have lost any semblance of authority over her, she would have thought she could get away with anything. That had left the ball firmly in Ianto’s court.

 
Jack had called a while ago, saying they’d be on their way back shortly, so Ianto had come out to meet them. From what little Jack had told him, things hadn’t gone well; Gwen had been angry and upset, refusing to listen to reason, and now she wanted to take Jonah’s mother out there. That had disaster written all over it.
