“People are crazy,” Dee commented to his partner, as a trio of guys in shorts and sneakers jogged across the street ahead in front of them while they were paused at an intersection.
 

Ryo turned to look at Dee, frowning. “What makes you say that?”
 

“I know you can be a bit of an airhead, but…” De shook his head. “You got your eyes closed or somethin’? I would’a thought even you couldn’t miss those joggers just now.”

 
Conversations with Dee were at times completely baffling. “What about the joggers?”
 

“They’re joggin’! It’s like a hundred degrees out there and they’re out in it, runnin’, even though they don’t need to! I mean, it’s not like they’re chasin’ a suspect, or tryin’ to catch a bus, or even bein’ chased by a knife wieldin’ maniac. They’re just runnin’ for exercise on a day hot enough to fry eggs on the sidewalk. They’ll probably wind up dehydrated and sufferin’ from heatstroke. You tell me that’s not crazy!”

 
“I went running this morning, before work. I do most days.”
 

“Yeah, but you run before it gets this hot. If they’re gonna jog, they should wait until evenin’, when it’s a bit cooler.”
