Summary: Jack doesn’t fear for his own safety.

Jack had never really considered himself to be particularly courageous. When he’d still been mortal, he’d had a strong sense of self-preservation, or at least he had when he’d been sober.
 

Being immortal, there really wasn’t much he needed to fear. He didn’t enjoy dying, or what he had to endure afterwards, but since he knew he wouldn’t stay dead it was a bit pointless to let it bother him. As for injuries, they healed quickly and completely, even when he didn’t die from them.

 
In short, it wasn’t what might happen to him that scared him, but what could happen to others, especially those whose safety he was responsible for.

 
It was why he’d been so determined to resurrect Owen after he was shot, and why he still felt guilty months later for condemning Torchwood’s medic to a living death. It was why, right now, he was terrified he might lose the other members of his team, not just undead Owen, but brilliant Tosh, and irreplaceable Ianto.
 

His own death and resurrection were of no importance, but he had to find his team. If any of them died in this derelict warehouse because of him, he’d never forgive himself.
