“Gah!” Dee grumbled. “Startin’ to feel like a pincushion here!”

 
Ryo snickered. “I didn’t think needles bothered you.”
 

“They don’t, and I know I chose to get everythin’ done at once, but this is kinda addin’ insult to injury. You only had to get jabbed twice; I’m gettin’ extras!”

 
They’d decided to get their flu jabs and Covid boosters at the same time, one in each arm to spread out the potential aches, and they’d booked for after today’s shift, knowing they’d have a couple of days to recover in the event of suffering any side effects. It was a sensible plan, but shortly before they’d clocked off, Dee had been restraining a struggling suspect, and during the scuffle had caught his forearm on a jagged piece of metal. So now here they were in the ER, having stopped off at the vaccination center for their jabs first.
 

The nurse stuck the needle in yet again, injecting more local anaesthetic around the wound while Dee tried hard not to pout at the unfairness of it all. Now, even if both arms weren’t sore from his vaccinations, one was going to be aching from his injury.

 
“Good thing we’re off tomorrow.”
