“I’ve had it!” Owen threw himself onto the battered old sofa, and…

 
SPROINGGGGG!
 

The seat sagged, and the sharp end of a broken spring tore through the lumpy upholstery.
 

Silence fell over the Hub as everyone stopped what they were doing and stared.
 

“Shit,” Owen grumbled, extracting himself from the cushions. “That barely missed me!”
 

“What did you do?” Jack strode towards Owen, face like thunder.
 

“Nearly got impaled on a rusty spring,” Owen snapped back. “Bloody thing’s dangerous, should’ve been junked years ago.”
 

“You killed my sofa!” Jack looked close to tears as he dropped to his knees beside it.

 
“So what? It could do with replacing anyway, preferably with something modern enough that it doesn’t have rusty springs in the cushions.”

 
“I bought this sofa!” Jack petted the worn upholstery. “Back in the early seventies. I’ve spent a lot of nights on it…” He trailed off, a hitch in his voice.

 
Owen scowled. “I can’t believe you’re getting sentimental over furniture!”
 

“Don’t worry, Jack.” Ianto patted his lover’s shoulder. “I’m sure it can be fixed, just leave it to me. I’ll find an upholsterer who works with vintage furniture.”

 
“You promise?”
 

“It’ll be good as new.”

 
“Thank you.”
