Standing shoulder to shoulder with Dee in the shelter of a convenient shop awning, watching the raindrops bouncing off the sidewalk and passing cars, and making bubbles in the puddles, Ryo couldn’t help but smile.
“This is kinda nice, isn’t it?”
“Nice?” Dee turned to stare incredulously at his lover. “We’re stuck here in the middle of a deluge!”
“But we’re dry,” Ryo pointed out cheerfully. “And there’s something so relaxing about watching the rain. Have you noticed the way the drops bounce when they hit the ground?”
“Can’t say I’ve been payin’ attention,” Dee admitted. “Just kinda zoned out here, not lookin’ at anything.”
“You miss out on so much doing that.” Ryo twined his fingers through his lover’s and squeezed Dee’s hand. “Watching the world go by is a lot more interesting than tuning it all out.”
“Yeah?” Dee found himself smiling; Ryo looked so content, as if all the stresses of work had been swept away by the downpour.
“Yes. Look out there; the city’s being washed clean, the air cooled and freshened, and it’s all because of something as simple as a summer storm.”
Dee nodded. “You’re right. I won’t even need to wash my car.”
