A/N: Triple drabble.
Living together was an adventure for both Ryo and Dee, getting used to each other’s routines, habits, and personal quirks. After several years together they were already familiar with most of them, having spent a few nights together each week, plus vacations in hotels and under canvas, but there were still new discoveries to make.
Like getting woken up in the early hours by Dee having a nightmare.
“Dee? Are you okay?” Ryo reached to turn the bedside lamp on.
“Fine.” Dee rubbed one hand through his hair. “Recurrin’ nightmare, that’s all.”
“I get those too. Feel like talking about it?”
Dee flopped back onto his pillow. “Not especially. It’s dumb.”
“Most dreams are. I’ve never had one that’s made any kind of sense when I’ve thought about it afterwards. When I was a kid, I had one where my mom put my dad up for sale and bought a dog instead. Then she dressed the dog in my dad’s clothes. What was yours about?”
“I was livin’ in a cargo container with JJ and his pet moose. Don’t laugh!”
“I wasn’t.” Ryo somehow kept a straight face.
“Anyway, I was sleepin’ in a packin’ crate, but the moose nailed it shut, it was goin’ to ship me to Alaska because it didn’t like havin’ competition for JJ’s affections. I kept tryin’ to tell the moose it could have JJ, I didn’t want him, but the moose just laughed and said I was lyin’ ‘cause everybody wanted him. Then it threw the crate in the sea, and when it started fillin’ with water, I was sure I was goin’ to drown, or that a shark would eat me, and that’s when I woke up.”
“That’s horrible! And you’ve had this dream before?”
“Yeah. The creepiest part is that damned moose!”
