“Forty!” Dee groaned. “I’m officially old!”
“Oh, thanks. What does that make me? I’m two months away from forty-one.” Ryo glared daggers at his husband, only relenting when he saw the sheepish expression on Dee’s face.
“Sorry, babe. Wasn’t thinkin’.”
“That’s a bad habit. Anway, forty isn’t old, it’s when life begins.” Ryo grinned. “We’re in our prime, and we’re fitter than most guys half our age.”
“I guess that’s true.”
Between all the legwork involved in their jobs, chasing criminals who tried to evade arrest, and their leisure pastimes that included hiking, cycling, swimming, and martial arts, they kept in excellent shape.
“The only reason you’re feeling old today is because you partied too hard last night,” Ryo reminded Dee. Their friends had thrown Dee a party at the bar, and caught up in the celebrations, he’d overindulged.
“Hangover, right. Been a while since I had one of those, I’d forgotten how bad it feels.”
“Which is why you cut back on drinking in the first place. Take some painkillers, re-hydrate, and you’ll feel better. Eventually.”
“Gee, thanks for the sympathy.”
“Hey, I’m sympathetic. I poured you into bed last night, didn’t I?”
“Yeah, thanks for that.”
“You’re welcome.”
