Summary: Some days, the job really gets them down, but Dee and Ryo can’t give up, no matter how tough it gets.

A/N: Double drabble.
Dee raked both hands through his hair and groaned. His head ached, his eyes felt gritty with exhaustion, and he wished he was home in bed.
“You okay?” Ryo asked, absently rubbing the back of his neck. He looked as wiped out as Dee felt.
“No. Are you?” It sounded more snappish than Dee had intended, and he winced; he hadn’t meant to take his frustration out on his partner.
“No. You’re right, that was a stupid question.”
“Yeah, but that’s no reason to bite your head off. Sorry. It’s just, days like this… Makes me wonder why I ever wanted to be a cop.”
“To help people, to solve crimes, to get justice for the victims.” Ryo smiled faintly. “Even if some days it feels like all we’re doing is banging our heads against a wall.”
“Tell me about it. Two people dead, a little kid missing, no clues, no suspects, not even any obvious motive… Everyone we’ve talked to says the same thing. Happy couple, good parents, well-liked by neighbours, co-workers, family, and friends, no skeletons in the closet, far as anyone knows, no murderous ex-boyfriends or girlfriends… We’re missin’ somethin’.”
“So we’ll just have to keep looking.”
