In between parallel universes there’s a lot of nothing; no light or darkness, no sound, no colour, no texture, no form. It’s more than simply a vacuum, it’s the complete absence of everything. There has never been, and never will be, anything in the void, it simply isn’t possible. Or so say the Time Lords.

 
Building a Void Ship is a theoretical problem. It can’t be done, and yet... Someone somewhere has succeeded.

 
There it stands, solid and real, having traversed the emptiness between one universe and the next. The Doctor doesn’t know what’s inside, but it can’t be good.

It does not end well. Cybermen and Daleks battling it out in Torchwood Tower in London, slaughtering people, converting them into soldiers... Over 800 people worked there and canon says just 23 survivors. On of whom is Ianto, who drags his half-converted girlfriend out of their, takes her to Cardiff, gets a lob with Torchwood Three, tries to save Lisa, but she's already too far gone. Things go downhill from there.
