A/N: Double drabble.
“Measure twice, cut once,” Ianto said in exasperation. “That’s the rule with carpentry. Did you even bother measuring at all?” He looked at the neatly stacked pile of lumber that had been intended for shelving repairs in the archives; from what he could see, no two pieces were the same length.
“I couldn’t find the tape measure, so I measured by eye,” Jack said. “They’ll be fine, we can always cut a bit more off to make them fit if we have to.”
Ianto sighed, exasperated. “That won’t help, Jack, they’re all at least three inches too short. Now I’ll have to order more wood and start again. All this is useless!”
“I was only trying to help!” Jack pouted. “I thought you’d be pleased you didn’t have to saw all this lot by yourself.”
“And I might have been, if you’d bothered to measure them properly in the first place. As it is, all you’ve done is leave me with even more work, and delay the archive repairs for another week at least.”
“I’m sorry! I’ll do better next time.”
“In future, I’ll do all the measuring, and THEN you can do the cutting. Is that clear?”
“Yes, Ianto.”
