Ianto said something, but Jack didn’t quite catch it. He hurried after his lover, worried that, with the mood Ianto seemed to be in, he might find himself left behind. Besides, he wanted to know what Ianto had just said before stalking off in what could only be described as a huff.
“Ianto? Ianto! Wait up!” Jack broke into a jog until he was alongside the other man. “Would you please repeat what you just said back there? I couldn’t hear. I think I’ve still got water in my ears.”
Ianto stopped so suddenly that Jack went past him and had to turn back. “The problem with you is that you never listen!”
“I just told you; there’s still water in my ears! It’s not my fault I can’t hear very well!”
Rolling his eyes in exasperation, Ianto glared at his lover. “You didn’t have that convenient excuse earlier! If you’d been listening to me in the first place, you wouldn’t have fallen in the river, and then you wouldn’t have water in your ears, affecting your hearing!”
“So what WAS it you said?”
“I told you to watch out for the mud or you’d end up in the river!”
