Summary: Buffy can’t help wishing sometimes that she wasn’t the Slayer.

A/N: Triple drabble.
Sometimes Buffy wished she’d never been called as the Slayer, that her predecessor had lived longer, that when she’d eventually been killed, whatever it was that selected the next of the potentials to take up the Slayer mantle had just skipped straight past her and landed on someone else.
She felt guilty thinking like that, because it meant condemning some other young girl to a short life of constant peril followed by a brutal death, but Slayer or not, she was only human, and she couldn’t help envying the other girls at Sunnydale High. She would love to have nothing more serious to worry about than her grades and whether anyone was going to ask her to the Homecoming Dance.
Instead, here she was, trying to keep the world from being destroyed. Again. All the wishing in the world wouldn’t change the fact that preventing Armageddon, in whatever supernatural form it took, was her responsibility.
“I don’t even mind battling the forces of evil,” she confided in Willow. “Not much, anyway. I’m good at it, and there’s a lot of job satisfaction to be gained from pummelling evil in the face. It’s just… Sometimes I’d like a night off, a chance to be a regular teenage girl, get dressed up, go to a party, and not ruin my hairdo, or my outfit, or break my nails. One night now and then to just be… girly. Is that too much to ask?”
“It shouldn’t be. I wish there was more I could do to help.”
“Are you kidding? You do tons to help! All the research and stuff, helping Giles, and then you’re always there willing to listen to me moan about everything. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be able to do my job half as well. You rock.”
