Racing across the precinct’s parking lot, Dee and Ryo threw themselves into their assigned unmarked car, soaked by even that short exposure to the elements. It really wasn’t a good day to be out; curling up at home with a hot coffee and a good book would have been infinitely preferable, but they couldn’t afford to take days off just because the weather was unpleasant. That would be a waste of their personal days when they might be needed for something more important later on.

“Did you know,” Ryo gasped as he slammed the car door behind him and frowned at the rain pouring down the windows, “that there are around a hundred thousand thunderstorms a year across the country, most of them in the summer?”

“Yeah,” Dee replied, “and it looks like we’re gettin’ all of ‘em. This is the third in the last four days!”

“And the wettest.” Ryo slicked wet hair back from his face and slouched in his seat. “If I was in my car, there’d be a towel in the glovebox, but not in an official police vehicle.”

“We should have a word with the Chief. Towels should be standard equipment in every car; you never know when one might come in handy.”

“We’d probably be expected to provide our own.”

“Yeah, probably, but… Wouldn’t it be great if there was a parallel universe where, when ya graduate from the academy, you’re given your badge, your gun, and your official police towel?”

“Wouldn’t help us though, would it? We live in this universe, not the one where everyone gets a towel, so we’ll just have to put up with being wet.

“Yeah, I guess we’d better just hope the heater works in this hunk of junk.”

“If it doesn’t, we’re stopping somewhere to buy towels.”

Being somewhat familiar with the many things cops carry in their trunks, I don't think anyone would mind if they added towels, at least to the unit(s) they drive!
