Cardiff wasn’t home anymore. Even earth couldn’t really be considered home, not after so long away, travelling the universe. It had already been hundreds of years since Ianto had died, twice, and revived aboard a TARDIS drifting in the void, and out of all the places he COULD go, earth in his own time was the one place out of reach to him. And yet the longer he travelled, the less that bothered him.
In many ways, he’d outgrown the person he was, and the life he’d had, all those centuries ago. He wasn’t that person anymore, and truthfully, he didn’t want to be. He’d grown up, even though he didn’t look any older than he had back then. One of the benefits of being immortal, even if it could at times be a bit of a mixed blessing. Just like Jack, he would always look the same as he had when he’d died the first time. If he was ageing at all, it was very slowly, but that too was okay.
Home, he now understood, didn’t have to be a place. It could be wherever you were happy. What mattered most was the people you shared your life with.
