“D’you ever think about how things used to be?” Ianto asked, lazing on the fluffy yellow grass, staring up into a sky all shades of lemon, peach, apricot, and orange, strangely reminiscent of a fruit salad.
“Which things, exactly, are we talking about?” Jack asked, relaxing beside his husband.
“You know. Our life. In the past.”
“How far back in time are we talking here?”
“All the way back.” Ianto popped a chermot berry into his mouth and felt it burst like a sweet and fizzy fruit flavoured champagne bubble.
“I hate to break it to you, but we weren’t alive at the dawn of time, although if you want, we could nip back there and take a peek, see what it was like.”
Ianto snorted. “I didn’t mean THAT far back, I meant… Well, back when we first met, Torchwood and all that.”
“It crosses my mind occasionally. Thoughts of old friends and old times. Why?”
“No reason really. But if someone had told me back then that I’d still be here, three million years into the future, enjoying life travelling the universe in our TARDIS, I wouldn’t have believed them. Sometimes I’m still not sure I believe it.”
