Summary: Owen’s having a slight problem with his current patient.

A/N: Double drabble.




A crashed scout-ship had left Owen dealing with patients who were a little outside his comfort zone. The Zelbites were squat, wide-mouthed people with tentacles instead of arms and legs: four beneath their lumpy bodies for walking, eight for manipulating their environment, arranged in pairs, four down each side, and clusters of smaller, much more delicate fronds at the corners of their mouths. Of all the alien species he’d ever met, they were by far the most bizarre.


Most of the injuries suffered by the trio were just cuts, burns, and abrasions that would heal with minimal care; a few stitches here and there, some soothing salves… Zelbite skin was quite tough and very flexible. One of the crew, however, had been squashed when a bank of equipment fell on her, and had broken two tentacles, a ‘leg’ and ‘arm’. While they didn’t really have bones, the core of Zelbite tentacles was made of fibrous cartilage, which could, under certain circumstances, be split like a greenstick fracture, and needed setting in a cast in order to heal.


Owen wouldn’t have minded, except his patient kept stroking him with her mouth tentacles.


“What’s she doing?”


Jack grinned. “Flirting. She fancies you.”
