“You’re training the bald chicken?” Owen could scarcely believe his ears. He’d known the new teaboy was a bit weird from the start, but this really took the cake.

 
“She’s a Pteranodon, and she’s easily as smart as the average dog, so why not? If a dog can be taught to sit or fetch or play dead, why can’t Myfanwy learn to follow a few basic commands?”
 

“How about because it’s a big prehistoric flying reptile? You seriously think you can teach it to sit and play fetch?”

 
“Don’t be ridiculous, Owen; those were only random examples. Why would we need a Pteranodon who can fetch on command?”

 
“Why do we need one at all?”

 
“You just don’t like her because she nipped you.”

 
“Nipped? She tried to take my hand off!”

 
“If she’d meant it seriously you’d be missing a few fingers. She was just letting you know she didn’t like you sticking a needle in her.”

 
“Whatever. So what’re you going to train her to do?”
 

“I thought I’d begin by teaching her what NOT to do. House train her to start with, then teach her to only eat what we give her. Stop her snacking on you.”
