“Why does the work week feel like it lasts a year, while our day off flies past in about five minutes?” Dee complained, checking the wall clock to see that less than half an hour had passed since the last time he’d looked.
Ryo chuckled. It wasn’t that he didn’t sympathise with his partner, but he’d heard the same complaints so many times, he could almost predict them. “It’s like the old saying: Time flies when we’re having fun. Maybe if you enjoyed your job more…”
“I like my job just fine. Parts of it, anyway. Paperwork I could do without.” Dee scowled at the pile of forms and reports in front of him. “Can’t avoid it though.” He slumped back in his chair and checked the clock again. It didn’t look like the hands had even moved. Groaning, he shoved both hands through his hair. “Think I’m goin’ outta my mind!”
“Nothing new there then. You say that halfway through every week.”
“I do?” Dee looked horrified. “Oh God, this is worse than I thought! I’m gettin’ predictable in my old age!”
Ryo almost choked on his coffee. “Thirty-four isn’t old!”
“My life’s flyin’ past while time stands still!”
The End
