Guard dog! Ianto fumed silently. Captain Jack Harkness was perfectly happy to take the pterodactyl he’d found, let it fly around his secret base and be Torchwood Three’s unofficial protector, but Ianto himself? Turned down time and again.

 
‘If he wants a guard dog, I could be that, and do the job better than a prehistoric reptile. Unless he wants uninvited guests to be eaten.’
 

He’d tried everything he could think of to get a job with the Cardiff branch. He’d bravely battled a Weevil. Well, he’d hit it with a stick. That was still brave, if a bit stupid.  He’d offered coffee better than the Captain had probably ever tasted. He’d dressed in tight jeans to tempt Harkness that way. Rumour had it Torchwood Three’s leader was attracted to anyone pretty to look at, and though Ianto wasn’t a vain man, he thought he was reasonably attractive.
 

The pterodactyl had been his last resort, but right now it was his competition. If this didn’t get him through the door he had no idea what to try next.
 

He hadn’t expected getting himself hired would be easy, but the hate Harkness felt for Torchwood One ran deeper than he’d anticipated.
