Summary: Dee and Ryo suffer an unprovoked attack due to a case of mistaken identity.

Ryo tracked Dee down to the squad’s break room, where he was lying on the sofa with his eyes closed.

 
“Headache?”
 

“No thanks, already got one.” Dee cracked one eye open; the other, mottled purple and black, wouldn’t open properly. “You okay?”
 

“Better than you by the looks of it.” At least Ryo’s nose had stopped bleeding. It was sore and a bit puffy, but not broken. “Did you take anything for your headache?”

 
“Yeah, just thought I’d lie here until it kicks in. Man, what a mornin’.”

 
“Tell me about it.” Ryo perched on the arm of the sofa behind Dee’s head, gently brushing his lover’s hair away from the bruise around his eye.

 
“Mm, feel’s good. Your hand’s cool.”
 

“More like frozen. I had to wash the blood out of my shirt before it stained.”
 

“Y’know, I expect suspects to resist arrest, they don’t wanna get caught, but I never thought I’d be attacked by a crime victim.”

 
The shopkeeper, having already been robbed at gunpoint, had come out brandishing a broom, hitting Dee in the eye and whacking Ryo across the nose.

 
“She did apologise when she realised we were cops.”
 

“Only reason I didn’t arrest her.”
