Dee sighed gloomily as he dragged himself out of bed on Christmas morning. His and Ryo’s work schedule sucked, even though it was completely fair; this year they were working Christmas and Boxing Day but had New Year off, next year it would be the other way around. No one was expected to work both, but that didn’t make him any more cheerful about working Christmas Day. Feeling hard done by, he headed for the bathroom to shower.

 
He was half-dressed when his doorbell rang. Muttering curses, he hopped to answer it, trying to put his socks on.
 

Opening the door, the sight that met his eyes immediately lifted his spirits.
 

“Happy Christmas, Dee!”
 

“Hey, babe! Happy Christmas to you too. Everything okay?”
 

“Yep! I just dropped Bikky off to spend the day at Carol’s, wouldn’t be any fun for him home alone on Christmas, so I thought I’d come over, give you a ride to work.”

 
Dee glanced at the clock on the wall. “There’s still plenty of time, we don’t gotta leave yet.”
 

“I know.” Stepping inside, Ryo closed the door and shed his coat. There was a ribbon tied around him. “Aren’t you gonna open your present?”
