Dee stared at his computer screen in disbelief. “What the hell?”
Across their desks, Ryo looked up from his own work, peering over the tops of his glasses.
“What’s up?”
“Think I’ve got gremlins in this damned computer. It was fine when I started, but now everything’s goin’ backwards!”
“Backwards?” Ryo pushed his chair back and stood up. “What d’you mean?”
“It’s writin’ right to left instead of left to right. How’s that even possible?” Dee was completely baffled. “I mean, I know I’m no technical whiz, but I’m pretty sure it shouldn’t be doin’ that.”
“Let me take a look.” Ryo nudged his partner aside and turned Dee’s work laptop towards him. “Oh.” He chuckled. “Looks like you must’ve hit the wrong keys or something, I’ve done that before. Just give me a minute… Gotta try to remember how to undo it.” Frowning intently at the screen, Ryo prodded at various keys until… “Okay, think I’ve got it. Try that.” He slid the computer towards Dee.
Tentatively, Dee typed a couple of words, watching as they appeared right where they were supposed to.
“Yeah, that’s better. Thanks. Guess it wasn’t gremlins after all.”
“Just the mysteries of modern technology.”
