“Drop it!” Dee said in his most commanding tone. “I won’t warn ya again!”

 
Ryo came jogging up to join his partner, having been delayed checking on the victims. Nobody seemed to be hurt, just upset.

 
“What’s going on?”

 
“I told him to drop it, but he’s not cooperatin’.” Dee glared at the miscreant. “Dealin’ with stuff like this is not in my job description.” Sitting on Dee’s foot, Dick the dachshund gave a small huff of agreement. “See? The mutt agrees with me.”

 
“He’s well trained. Our friend there obviously isn’t.”
 

The mongrel crouched, head down, butt in the air, tail wagging furiously as it waited to be chased, the little girl’s doll gripped firmly in its mouth.

 
“Face it, I’m just no good with dogs; never have been. This one’s the exception.” Dee wiggled the foot Dick was sitting on, making the dog bounce slightly. “You try.”

 
“Cover his eyes.”
 

“What? Why?”
 

“Just do it.”
 

Bending over, Dee did as he was told, making sure the small dog couldn’t see what was happening. Ryo pulled one of Dick’s toys from his pocket, showing it to the other dog, and as he drew back his arm to throw it, Dee finally understood; his lover hadn’t wanted their dog chasing it.

 
The mongrel immediately dropped the doll it had stolen and took off after the ball. Dee went to retrieve the stolen property and return it, damp but still in one piece, to its owner while Ryo went after the thief.

 
When he re-joined his partner a few minutes later, Ryo had the mongrel by the collar. Picking Dick up, Dee removed the little dog’s leash and handed it over.

 
“Better use this now ya got him under arrest. We gonna charge him?”
 

“No, just return her to her owner.”
