Summary: Jack and Ianto’s dates seldom go to plan.

A/N: Double drabble.
Date nights were, thanks to Torchwood, a bit hit and miss. Getting through an entire evening of what should have been time away from work to enjoy each other’s company was almost unheard of; in the past year, Ianto thought they’d perhaps managed it twice, and he considered those occasions flukes.
Tonight had gone as well as could be expected, considering their dinner had been interrupted halfway through the main course by a most inconvenient Rift event in the restaurant kitchen that had resulted in a minor explosion when a piece of alien tech landed in a pan of simmering soup. The resulting clouds of indigo smoke had been spectacular, the kitchen staff had been high as kites from breathing the fumes, and several of the waiters had also been affected.
The rest of the team had arrived to find Jack and Ianto already at the scene, looking resigned but doing their best to handle the situation. Jack had brightened a little on seeing them.
“Well, now that reinforcements have arrived, maybe we can slip out and salvage what’s left of our date. Owen, you’re in charge.”
“You’re leaving us to deal with this mess?”
“Yes. It’s our night off.”
