It was starting, the Doctor could feel the tingling spreading out from deep inside him, running like liquid fire along every nerve of his body.
 

He gasped, his body going rigid, arms outflung, and head thrown back as energy burst free, crackling across his skin, a golden light so bright that to look upon it from the outside would be almost unbearable.
 

He screamed.
 

It wasn’t pain, exactly, and it wasn’t fire, yet it burned through him, consuming him, tearing him apart at the molecular level and rebuilding him, reshaping him.

 
Regeneration, obliterating the old as he became someone new.
