The last thing Drake had been expecting on a night out with JJ was to run into one of his old girlfriends. They were in a gay club! Surely a place like that should have been safe from reminders of his old existence as a perennial loser in love. But there she was, Gillian, or was it Cathy? There’d been so many over the years, looking back they’d all started to blend together.

No, it was Emily, with a group of giggling friends. Emily, who’d dumped him because he was always broke and she didn’t think it was right for the woman to have to pay for anything. She’d made him feel like a failure, and here she was, fluttering around another woman who was obviously a bride-to-be, probably wishing she was the one getting married to some wealthy businessman. Figured. Gay clubs were weirdly popular for bachelorette parties. With luck, she’d be so busy gossiping that she wouldn’t notice him…

“Drake Parker, is that you?”

Damn his luck!

“Emily. How are you?”

“Great!” She smiled up at him, petite and pretty, blonde hair carefully styled. “What’re you doing in a place like this? You can’t be that desperate!” She laughed at her ‘joke’.

“He’s with me,” JJ said, moving to stand beside Drake and taking his hand, just to make it absolutely clear what he meant.

Emily’s eyes went wide. “You’re dating a guy now? When did you switch sides?”

With a surge of confidence, thanks to the supportive presence of his wonderful boyfriend, Drake found himself smiling, all the tension draining out of him. “I didn’t, I’ve always been Bi, I just spent way too long trying to conform, dating shallow women, until I met someone who appreciates me for who I am.”

“Oh. Well, good for you.”
