A/N: Double drabble and a half, 250 words.
“And that,” Dee said with satisfaction, closing the manila folder, slapping it down on his desk and leaning back in his chair, “is the Pettigrew case closed!” He grinned across at his partner. “You know what that means, don’t ya?”
Ryo just looked at Dee. “Enlighten me.”
“That’s the last of our open cases, doofus! We’re done!”
“Is it? We are?” Ryo frowned, thinking about their current caseload, then his eyes widened. “You’re right, it is! That must be practically unprecedented!”
“Not quite, but it IS rare. We even managed to close a cold case in between the last two. Feels good, don’t it?”
“Yes.” There was no point denying it, and a glow of accomplishment spread through Ryo; for the moment, they had nothing they needed to be working on. Another case would no doubt be dropped in their laps before long, there was ALWAYS another case, but not right now. “So, what do we do next, start on the cold cases again, see if we can generate new leads?”
“Nah, that’ll wait ‘til tomorrow. By tradition, anyone who clears all their cases gets to take the rest of the shift off. It’ll only be a half day, but still…” Dee trailed off, grinning. “It’s half a day that doesn’t come outta our paid time off, and we worked our butts off to earn it.” He stood, picking up the folder. “I’ll just go drop this on the Chief’s desk and let him know, then we’re outta here, baby!”
