Summary: Ryo is away, working undercover, and Dee is trying to find ways to occupy himself.

A/N: Double drabble.
 
 

With Ryo away in D.C., on an undercover assignment for the Sea Hag, Dee found himself at a loose end. He didn’t even have Bikky to look after; the kid was staying with Carol and her aunt for the duration, which was a mixed blessing.
 

On the one hand, it meant freedom from the boy’s passive aggressive insults and acting out, which Dee had endured before when Ryo had been away, or in the hospital. But it also meant Dee had nothing but work to occupy his mind, making the evenings pass slowly.
 

Sure, he could go out for drinks with his friends, go to a sports bar to watch a game on the big screen, do pretty much whatever he wanted, which was what he did when Ryo was busy. There were plenty of evenings they didn’t spend together. This was different though. Ryo would be gone for at least a month, probably longer, and the time stretched out ahead of Dee like a bleak, empty, featureless plain. How would he keep himself from going crazy? He couldn’t even talk to Ryo on the phone.

 
Maybe that was why he started growing a beard… It was something to do.
