“You givin’ anything up for Lent?” Dee asked Ryo out of the blue.


“I don’t know. Maybe. Why?”


“Well, if ya do, what’re ya thinkin’ about givin’ up?”


“Not you, if that’s what you’re worried about,” Ryo teased.


“That would be a sacrifice too far,” Dee grinned back. “It’s just, I already quit smokin’ so I can’t give up my cigs, no way I’m givin’ up coffee ‘cause I’d not make it through one day in this job without it, and I’m sure as hell not givin’ up sex, so what does that leave?”


“Beer?” Ryo suggested.


“I hate Lent.”
