“I’m starvin’,” Dee muttered, slouching further down in the driver’s seat of his and Ryo’s unmarked police car. They’d been sitting here on stakeout for almost three hours, and because it was spur-of-the-moment, he hadn’t come prepared with snacks.


“D’you want some of these?” Ryo pulled a bag from his pocket.


Dee squinted in the dimness; it was almost dark now and they were parked well away from the nearest working streetlamp. “What are they?”


“Brazil nuts.”


“Nuts? I’m a man, not a squirrel!”


“Sorry, but this is all I’ve got with me unless you want sunflower seeds.”


“Fine, gimme the nuts,” Dee sighed, resigning himself to his fate. “Better than nothin’ I guess. Why’d ya bring ‘em anyway?”


“I like them, they’re crunchy and packed with protein.”


“Most people eat junk food on stakeouts.” Dee bit into a nut.


Ryo shrugged. “Nuts are healthier.”


“They’re never gonna catch on.”
