Jack looked around in alarm; the twins had been right there thirty seconds ago, he’d only looked away for an instant to check the shopping list Ianto had left for him that morning and figure out the best place to start, but now Gareth and Jenna were nowhere in sight.
The St David’s Shopping Centre was crowded with parents and children, everyone else seeming to have decided that a dismally rainy day was the perfect time to do the back-to-school shopping, what with the autumn term due to begin in just over a week.
Jack was supposed to be kitting the Holy Terrors out ready for their first day, something Ianto would have done himself if his presence at a UNIT meeting in London hadn’t been requested at the last minute, but now he’d managed to lose the kids! They were only five-years-old; what if they’d been kidnapped? Ianto would never forgive him!
Close to panic, Jack scrambled onto one of the benches set out for weary shoppers, scanning the crowds and wishing he’d had his offspring fitted with tracking chips.
“Daddy? What’re you doing? Taddy says we shouldn’t stand on chairs.”
Jack sighed with relief. “Though I’d lost you.”
